SIA to US Department of Commerce: Double chip exports and strengthen US competitiveness

Electronics Design, Strategy, News (Deffree) - The SIA this morning filed a report to the US Department of Commerce outlining actions it believes are required to meet the goal of doubling semiconductor exports by 2014...Semiconductors are a natural export to focus on, as they were second only to petroleum refinery products last year at $38 billion. Further, as the SIA report states, between 2005 and 2009 total semiconductor exports averaged $48 billion, making it the highest of all US exports during the five-year period.

The SIA paper models a doubling of semiconductor exports, from $38 billion in 2009 to $76 billion in 2014, through a combination of market growth, increased market share overseas by US headquartered companies, and increased activity located in the US.
