IMTI Radical Innovation Webinar Series (Thursday, April 22nd at 2:00 EST) - Quality has long been associated with manufacturing. Quality in manufacturing is critically important to providing a product that will be valued by its user. However, creating a true quality product begins much earlier and extends much later into a product’s lifecycle. Dr. Grieves will present his model of Product Lifecycle Quality (PLQ), which examines quality as it pertains to all four phases of a product’s life: create, build, sustain, and dispose.
As an outgrowth of his work in Product Lifecycle Management (PLM), PLQ goes beyond the idea of quality as meeting or even exceeding specifications in the manufacturing phase. Dr. Grieves will describe how product quality is determined in the create phase, enabled in the manufacturing phase, and realized in the sustain phase. He will describe the current trends that are even extending the idea of quality into the disposal phase. Dr. Grieves will define what quality really is, how it fits into a PLM framework, and how to realize it as a product producer.
Dr. Michael Grieves is the author of the seminal book on PLM, Product Lifecycle Management: Driving the Next Generation of Lean Thinking (McGraw-Hill). He founded the Product Lifecycle Management Development Consortium, University of Michigan's College of Engineering and served as its Co-Director. Dr. Grieves consults with a select list of major organizations, including NASA. He has over 35 years of executive, technical, and board-level industry experience. His next book,Virtually Perfect: Driving Lean and Innovative Product through PLM will be published later this year.
