Despite New Skills, Some Workers Still Struggle To Find Jobs
Wall Street Journal (Lahart) - In an article titled "New Skills, Few Job Offers," the Wall Street Journal (3/17, Lahart, subscription required) reports that despite enrolling in retraining programs and taking classes to learn new skills, many workers are still struggling to find employment. In the short term, poor job prospects are expected to remain a problem, according to the Journal. In the longer term, however, retraining will likely benefit those who have taken the opportunity to learn new skills. Harvard economist Lawrence Katz noted, "The labor market just isn't doing a lot of hiring right now, but there are obviously long-run payoffs" to learning new skills. Hat Tip: NAM
