Democrats Will Seek To Pass "Jobs Creation" Bill By December 18

AFP  reports, "The US House of Representatives may pass a new economic stimulus bill by December 18 in a bid to combat sky-high US unemployment, a top congressional ally of President Barack Obama said Tuesday." House Majority Leader Steny Hoyer said of the effort, "I wouldn't characterize it as a second stimulus. I don't want to be as broad as that, I want to be very targeted on jobs."

McClatchy (Lightman) describes Congressional leaders as "stung by constituents' concerns about their vanishing or vulnerable jobs" as they "launched a strong push Tuesday to pass a 'jobs creation' package by the end of this year." McClatchy adds that "in the Senate, Budget Committee Chairman Kent Conrad, D-N.D., called the effort 'an important priority.'" House and Senate leaders "hope for momentum from President Barack Obama's upcoming White House jobs meeting Dec. 3 and a cross-country 'White House to Main Street' tour starting the next day in Allentown, Pa."  Hat Tip: NAM
