Combined Heat and Power System Helps Frito-Lay Plant Get off the Grid

DOE ITP E-Bulletin (9/3) – The Frito-Lay plant in Killingly, Connecticut, installed a combined heat and power (CHP) system in March 2009…Funding from the state of Connecticut helped support the installation of the CHP system…The CHP system is designed to meet 100% of the plant’s power needs and can provide more than 80% of the plant’s current maximum steam needs. To maximize the system, the Killingly plant will utilize the generated waste heat to produce steam to help in the manufacturing process. For additional information on CHP and how you could use it in your plant download Combined Heat and Power: Effective Energy Solutions (PDF 2.5 MB).
