FY 2009 Omnibus Funding Bill: NIST Highlights

American Institute of Physics (2/25, Jones) – The FY 2009 budget for the National Institute of Standards and Technology would increase 8.4 percent, or $63.2 million in the FY 2009 Omnibus Appropriations Bill. . Passage of this bill is expected, although it is not certain it will be by March 6 when a resolution providing flat funding expires.

• $110 million for the Hollings Manufacturing Extension Partnership. The FY 2008 enacted budget was $89.6 million and the Bush Administration’s FY 2009 request was $2.0 million. This is an increase of $20.4 million or 22.7 percent.
• $65 million for the Technology Innovation Program. The FY 2008 enacted budget was $65.2 million. The Bush Administration’s FY 2009 request was zero. This is a decline of $200,000 or 0.3 percent.
